Peters and his wife, Sonia, of Granby, VT; and numerous cherished nieces, nephews, cousins, and in-laws. Johnsbury Academy in 1958 and pursued collegiate studies at Lyndon Teachers College (Lyndon State College), Rutgers University and the University of Rochester. Bill was an active member of his community, serving on several boards of directors including the Schuyler County Chamber of Commerce, the Watkins Glen Grand Prix Corporation, and many proud years with Schuyler Hospital, where he served time as chairman.
He earned a Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter professional designation and was a chapter member in Syracuse, NY. He was a devoted member of the Watkins-Montour Rotary Club, serving time as president and earning peer recognition as a Paul Harris Fellow.
He was an avid Syracuse basketball fan and lifelong outdoor enthusiast who enjoyed sharing in golfing, hunting, fishing and boating activities with his close friends and family.
Bill’s leadership, love for his community and warm sense of humor touched many throughout his life.
In 1970, Bill moved to Watkins Glen, NY with his family, where he purchased the E. Bill was also an elder of the First Presbyterian Church of Watkins Glen and served on the Regional Economic Development Committee.
In 1995, he was nominated Business Person of the Year by the Schuyler County Chamber of Commerce and in 2013 was inducted into the Schuyler County Hall of Fame.
Juanita valued time spent with her family and friends.
Her favorite pastime was to sit at the lake and be absorbed in the tranquility of her surroundings.
She is survived by her daughter, Helen Marie (David) Starkweather of Montour Falls; brother, Michael P. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery at a later date. Peters and her son, Michael Henrikson, of Seminole, FL ; daughter Ann C.
(Patty) Bilinski of Watkins Glen; grandchildren, Christine (Bryan) Kurcoba of Elmira, David (Cara) Starkweather of Montour Falls, and Bryan (Mary) Starkweather of Wayne; great grandchildren, Shaun and Jordynn Kurcoba, Eliza Starkweather, and Allison, Leah, Emily and Nate Starkweather; nieces and nephews, Teresa, Michael, Tammy, Lori, and their families, Heather (Jeremy Dawson), Molly Bilinski, Susan Smith Collins, Nancy Haner, and William Smith; great nieces and nephews, Madaline Bryerton, Hailey Smith, and Joseph and William Haner; and special cousin, Thais (Mario) Sarceni. He tended bar at the Watkins Glen Elks Lodge and often referred to himself as a "Psychologist." In addition to being a member of the Watkins Glen Elks Lodge 1546, he was a past member of the Mechanics Club and the VFW.
